This study analyzes the conversion process of private munitions factories to university facilities in Japan after World War II and considers the influence of GHQ. Focusing on the case of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries’ Daiko Factory, which was transformed into a university campus, we explore how the dismantling of the military industry through the dissolution of the zaibatsu intersected with the educational reform, and how this intersection was realized. In addition, we analyze GHQ’s policy decisions and Japan’s responses in this process, and highlight one aspect of land use and education policy during the postwar reconstruction period.
