Two radioimmunoassays for the measurement of rhesus monkey (Macaca mulatto) follicle stimulating hormone (RhFSH) have been developed. A purified RhFSH preparation with a biological potency of 200 U/mg is utilized as trace in both assays following its iodination with 131I. One of the systems, the homologous assay, employs antiserum from a guinea pig which had been immunized with a crude glycoprotein preparation from rhesus monkey pituitary glands. After absorption of this antiserum with purified rhesus monkey thyroid stimulating hormone (RhTSH), the homologous assay is specific for RhFSH. In the other system, the heterologous assay, either of two antisera to human FSH (anti—hFSH) can be utilized. This assay is specific for both RhFSH and its ² subunit. The sensitivities of both assays are sufficient to measure circulating FSH at all phases of most normal menstrual cycles in the rhesus monkey. (Endocrinology92: 1652, 1973)
