Abstract An automated frequency tracking system is implemented for an efficient mid‐range magnetic resonance wireless power transfer based on an analysis of a wireless power link consisting of transmitting and receiving resonators placed in a strong coupling region. The proposed tracking system is designed to maintain a power transfer efficiency of more than 70% for any transfer distance range by directly monitoring the efficiency via out‐band communication. The advantage of the proposed system over other frequency tracking schemes is that the performance of the resonators and power amplifier can be applied to the tracking algorithm. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
