The structural relationship between the different planar secondary defects which are observed in Al and Al-based binary alloys has been considered and additional observations made to show that the changes in structure which occur in the alloy systems studied are both systematic and predictable. The structural variations have been explained in terms of a simple model relating the stability of faulted dislocation loops to the development of internal stress and changes in stacking-fault energy which occur with alloying.
Westmacott et al. (1971) studied this question.
