An analysis of the Australian Health Survey was made to define the health needs of our society. The high number of people who consult physicians outside hospitals, and the extent of accidents as a cause of morbidity are in contrast with the emphasis of current medical training. The potential value of incorporating Health Survey and nationalcensus data into curriculum planning is emphasized.
