Abstract Finland is a land of forests and lakes and her whole economic life is closely associated with the forests and forest industry. Her lack of other nature resources has resulted in a concentration on forest industry during the period of industrial development between two world wars. In spite of a difficult and complex political history, her foresters and industrial technicians have succeeded in creating an amazingly efficient combination of resource management, industry, and commerce in forest products, which has played a dominant role in the advancement of the people and of the nation. This is the second article of a series on the forest resources and lumber industry of the northern European countries. The author wishes to express his appreciation to the many professional and industrial men in Finland whose help and cooperation have made this study possible.
