613 Background: The Enterprise Data & Analytics and Nursing Quality teams at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute developed a comprehensive Tableau dashboard for nursing quality and compliance metrics, replacing a manual small sample chart review system. After the dashboard launched, blood transfusion documentation—specifically patient education and vital sign documentation—was identified as a key area for improvement for regulatory compliance. Despite now having access to full population compliance rates, nurse leaders struggled to understand the aggregate data, and felt they lacked visibility into the calculations behind compliance metrics. This prompted the development of an interprofessional, analytics-based approach to improve nursing practice and documentation through an additional detailed dashboard view and training course for nurse leaders. Methods: In response to nursing feedback, a new detailed blood transfusion dashboard view was launched in February 2024, enabling nurse leaders to view compliance metrics for each administered blood unit. This allowed nurse leaders to use the new dashboard as a performance tool with individual staff nurses, providing specific patient examples and identifying common drivers of non-compliance to address education gaps with staff nurses where needed. Additionally, a training course titled “Dashboards and Reports 101” was developed to improve data literacy and dashboard utilization among nurse leaders, with 43 nurse leaders and 3 clinic assistant managers attending the initial training in December 2023. Results: The introduction of the blood transfusion detail dashboard and corresponding training course quickly led to improvements in compliance rates for patient education and vital sign documentation. Sites with strong nurse leadership engagement saw notable compliance increases. One DFCI network site saw education documentation compliance rise from 65% (366/561) in CY 2023 to 76% (423/553) in CY 2024, and vital sign documentation within 15 minutes of transfusion start increased from 72% (478/666) to 85% (594/698). Another site improved education documentation from 65% (210/325) to 76% (421/555), and vital sign compliance from 67% (305/454) to 77% (575/747) over the same period. Conclusions: The implementation of a blood unit-level blood transfusion dashboard and targeted training course significantly improved compliance rates for patient education and vital sign documentation. These improvements highlight the value of a learning health system model, where continuous user feedback and enhancements drive quality improvement in patient care. By fostering data literacy and driving leadership engagement with analytical tools, this initiative demonstrates how analytics can be leveraged at similar organizations to improve documentation and care practices.
