E-Learning Platforms for Vocational Skills Development among Unemployed Youth in Cape Town, South Africa: An Assessment and Case Study

E-learning platforms have emerged as a promising solution for skill development among unemployed youth in South Africa's Cape Town Municipality. A mixed-methods approach was employed, including surveys (n=200) and focus group discussions (n=15). The analysis revealed that 70% of participants reported improved skills in digital literacy areas after using e-learning platforms. Focus groups identified limited access to technology as a significant barrier. E-learning platforms show promise for skill development, but require targeted interventions to address technological disparities. Investment in infrastructure and training programmes should be prioritised to ensure equitable access to digital resources.
