Energy-efficient lighting technologies are crucial for reducing energy consumption in rural areas where access to electricity is often limited or unreliable. A mixed-methods approach was employed, including a survey with quantitative data on household demographics and use patterns, complemented by qualitative interviews to explore perceptions and challenges related to energy efficiency. Survey results indicated that 60% of rural households reported having access to solar-powered lighting systems, while 40% used traditional kerosene lamps. Interviews revealed significant barriers such as initial costs and concerns about light quality. The adoption rates suggest a potential for scaling up energy-efficient lighting solutions in the region with targeted interventions addressing affordability and infrastructure gaps. Policy-makers should prioritise funding for solar panel installation subsidies to accelerate the transition from kerosene lamps to more sustainable lighting technologies.
