ABSTRACT The opthalmic literature dealing with diseases of the optic nerve, tracts, and visual cortex was reviewed for the period December 1974 through October 1975. Twenty‐four papers of interest to optometrists have been abstracted. Main areas of interest include pigment anomalies of the nerve head and retina; optic atrophy in multiple sclerosis and in small‐vessel disease; vascular anomalies of the nerve head, orbit, and occiput; an interesting discussion of the blood/brain barrier near the nerve head; relation between midline facial abnormalities (such as cleft palate) and malformations of the nerve head; continuing discussion of the nerve head in glaucoma; thoughts on the importance of field testing; new methods for evaluating the volume of nerve‐head cupping and photographing the retinal periphery; and a very economical method of monocular indirect ophthalmoscopy.
