Governance dynamics in state-owned enterprises (SOEs) have been a subject of interest within African contexts due to their significant role in economic development and public service delivery. The research employs qualitative methods including semi-structured interviews with stakeholders from various SOEs across different sectors in Zambia. Data analysis involves thematic coding and cross-case comparison. A notable finding is the significant influence of political factors on decision-making processes, particularly regarding resource allocation and strategic planning within these enterprises. The study concludes that while there are challenges related to governance, implementation of more transparent management practices could lead to improved efficiency and accountability. Recommendations include enhancing transparency in SOE operations, fostering closer collaboration between government entities and private sector partners, and establishing independent oversight mechanisms.
