Indicators of coastal shifts of several kilometres and a Mid-Holocene sea level of +2 m in southern Qatar include beach ridge sequences, buried coral reefs and sabkha deposits, isolated beach ridges and lagoonal deposits. In contrast, terrestrial geo-archives are rare; the sediment infill of riyad is shallow and probably of limited value for palaeogeographical interpretations.
