During the plenary lecture entitled “Paper-Based Electrochemical Biosensors as Smart and Sustainable Analytical Devices,” Prof. Fabiana Arduini presented the progress achieved in the development of paper-based electrochemical (bio)sensors for biomedical applications. The lecture was delivered at IEEE BioSensors 2025, the flagship international conference organized by the IEEE Sensors Council. Prof. Fabiana Arduini highlighted how paper-based electrochemical platforms provide unique advantages, including reagent-free operation, minimal sample pre-treatment, and the elimination of external pumping systems in microfluidics. The presentation emphasized the role of these sustainable and low-cost analytical devices in point-of-care diagnostics and decentralized healthcare solutions. Special attention was dedicated to the biomedical field, where paper-based biosensors are emerging as promising tools for rapid, accessible, and patient-centered diagnostics, contributing to the development of more sustainable healthcare technologies.
