The article examines the transformation of approaches to managing the competitiveness of higher education institutions in the context of digitalization through the prism of the ecosystem approach. The author substantiates that the key factor in the sustainability of a modern university is the synergy between flexible short-term educational programs (micro-credentials) and long-term digital talent development strategies. The paper reveals a management mechanism in which short-term programs serve as a tool for rapid response to labor market demands and initial recruitment of promising human resources, while talent development and retention strategies ensure the accumulation of the university's intellectual capital. Particular attention is paid to the use of data and the digital footprint of students to design individual learning pathways within an open research and educational ecosystem.
