Libraries and archives play a crucial role in preserving African intellectual heritage across various regions. In Kenya, these institutions are pivotal for safeguarding cultural and historical records that reflect the country's diverse traditions and knowledge systems. This study employed a qualitative approach by analysing existing literature on library and archival practices in Kenya, engaging interviews with stakeholders such as librarians and archivists, and reviewing relevant government documents and reports. The findings suggest that while there is significant investment in infrastructure, the implementation of digital preservation strategies remains underdeveloped. There is a notable disparity in access to resources between urban and rural areas. Current policies are insufficient to address the challenges faced by libraries and archives in preserving African intellectual heritage effectively. A more comprehensive approach that integrates digital technologies and equitable resource distribution is recommended. Enhanced funding for digital preservation initiatives, establishment of regional digital repositories, and development of standardised training programmes for librarians and archivists are proposed to improve the effectiveness of these institutions.
