Abstract

Abstract: The growing interest in glycoconjugates as potential chemotherapeutic agents against cancer stems from their ability to selectively target biological processes associated with tumor growth and metastasis. Glycoconjugates—compounds in which carbohydrates are covalently linked to proteins, lipids, or other bioactive molecules—have shown considerable promise in enhancing both the efficacy and selectivity of cancer therapies. This review highlights recent advancements in the development of glycoconjugates, focusing on their roles in modulating tumor-associated glycan interactions, improving drug delivery, and overcoming resistance mechanisms. Key breakthroughs include the synthesis of novel glycoconjugate compounds that exhibit enhanced cytotoxicity toward cancer cells while minimizing effects on normal tissues. Additionally, innovative strategies utilizing glycoconjugates as drug carriers or in combination therapies have demonstrated potential in preclinical and clinical studies. These developments suggest that glycoconjugates could play a pivotal role in the future of cancer treatment, offering new avenues for targeted and personalized therapeutic approaches.
