The convergence of digital media and architecture is redefining spatial experience, introducing a dynamic and emergent logic through virtual space. This paper investigates how the intervention of virtual space transforms embodied experience within architectural environments by examining ‘teamLab Borderless Tokyo’, a digital art exhibition where large-scale projections move across architectural surfaces and respond to visitor presence. The analysis draws on Gilles Deleuze's concept of the time-image to interpret the spatial and temporal montage produced through the interaction of physical architecture, digital projections, and embodied movement. It examines how virtual interventions disrupt the sensory-motor schema typically associated with architectural perception, creating moments analogous to Deleuze's ‘pure optical and sound situations’. Through this interaction, the museum operates as a Deleuzian ‘crystal of time’, where visitors become agents of crystallisation, who co-produce space through movement and perception. The paper argues that such environments produce a form of time-image architecture that challenges conventional modes of spatial perception and temporal experience. More broadly, the study suggests that virtual media function not merely as representational technologies but as spatial materials capable of transforming perception, movement, and temporal experience in architecture.
