Pekka Puska is a Finnish physician and public health expert who serves as a Member of the Finnish Parliament and maintains an affiliation with the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare. He held the position of Director General of the National Institute for Health and Welfare from 2009 to 2013 and directed noncommunicable disease prevention at the World Health Organization from 2001 to 2003. Puska led the North Karelia Project from 1972 to 1997, focusing on population-based prevention of cardiovascular diseases.
