Effect of foliar spraying with humic acid on the productivity of some mungbean genotypes under new land conditions

Abstract In Egypt, there is a scarcity of edible pulses throughout the summer months. Mungbean is a vegetable or seed legume crop that could be added to the agricultural structure of Egyptian agriculture in order to assess its viability. Two field experiments were conducted at Nubaria research station to evaluate the effect of foliar spraying humic acid (control, 10 cm/L and 20cm/L) on the productivity of some mungbean genotypes (Kawmy-1, King, AVM125, VC 1354 and VC 3896) during summer seasons of 2022 and 2023. The results showed that increasing HA foliar spray resulted in an overall improvement in all studied traits compared to the control the highest values were observed with HA20cm/L, indicating the effectiveness of higher fertilizer and foliar application. King and VC3896 genotypes exhibited the highest response to fertilizer treatments. But AVM125 genotype showed the weakest response, indicating a need for further optimization of fertilization strategies of all studied characters in growth. However the yield showed that the highest values of (seed, protein yield and harvest index) recorded for King with HA10 cm/L (3.85 ton/fed, 98.33 kg/fed and 49.34%) but straw and biological yield recorded for Kawmy1 with HA20cm/L (6.38 and 9.75 ton/fed). Humic Acid (HA) enhances nutrient uptake, with HA20cm/L showing the best results. Genotypes exhibit varying nutrient absorption efficiencies, with King performing best overall. Carbohydrate accumulation increases with HA application, potentially improving plant growth and yield. Statistically significant results confirm that fertilizer treatments and genotypic differences influence nutrient dynamics. Best overall Variety: AVM125 and King performed well in multiple amino acids. Impact of (HA) Treatments: HA20cm/L generally improve amino acid levels compared to control, particularly in Lysine, Methionine, Leucine, and Valine. •Lowest Performers: VC38966 had the lowest levels in multiple amino acids. Further studies could focus on optimizing fertilization strategies to maximize amino acid content.
