The article describes the characteristics of the linguistic personality in the context of their professional status as a firefighter, based on the works “The Blizzard”, “The Fire”, “Golden Documents”, “The Herculean Deeds of the Bright Memory of Fire Chief Nazarov”, “The Secret of the Fireproof Cabinet”, “No. 13. The Elpit-Rabkommuna House” by of M. A. Bulgakov. The study is novel in that it is the first one to examine the linguistic personality of a firefighter in the writer’s works. Multifaceted, characteristic professional communicative patterns have been described. Emphasis is placed on self-presentation using nonverbal means, and speech behavior is characterized by duality and contradiction. The concept of professional deformation is applied to the images of a literary text. Moreover, the features of professional identity within the framework of the literary text of M. A. Bulgakov’s era have been established. Therefore, the aim of the work is to define the traits of a firefighter’s linguistic personality as a representative of a professional community, with subsequent specification of the content of these features. The results show that the images of firefighters presented in the writer’s work acquire diverse assessments depending on their attitude to the activity, which makes them either lofty and pathetic, or realistic, or negative. At the same time, a firefighter’s appearance plays a major role in their self-presentation, where the uniform is associated with heroism and impressiveness, and speech behavior is determined by the idea of maintaining security in the world. However, in some cases this leads to professional deformations in the form of bureaucracy, dogmatism, hedonism, and an inclination towards material compensation in exchange for the miracle of rescue. Furthermore, the speech characteristics of a firefighter’s linguistic personality in a situation of fighting the elements are brevity, imperativeness, and abruptness, the latter being due to the need to overcome danger.
