This article reveals the role of coping behavior for professional athletes in effectively managing stress and emotions. One of the key tasks of coping behavior is to maintain the psycho-emotional state of an athlete, which is especially important in conditions of high competition, where pressure and stress can significantly affect athletic performance. The purpose of this work is to study the features of coping behavior depending on the attitude to the world and oneself in professional athletes. Survey-analytical, empirical, and psychodiagnostic methods, as well as mathematical and statistical methods, were used in the study. The sample consisted of 76 students from the Russian University of Sports “GCOLIFK” (Moscow) aged 19 to 25 years, divided into two groups: professional athletes (n = 37) and students who are not professionally involved in sports (n = 39). The results show that professional athletes develop outstanding qualities that help them not only in sports but also in life in general. Their ability to set goals and achieve them, as well as a high level of self-regulation, distinguish them from other students. Professional athletes more often resort to strategies such as self-control and acceptance of responsibility. Professional athletes are also more likely to be self-critical, perfectionistic, persistent, and self-controlled. Professional athletes combine perfectionism with constructive coping strategies.
