Motivation: While the brain's structural modules are the foundation of functional networks, the link between cortical gray matter diffusion properties and functional connectivity is still unclear. Goal(s): This study investigates the relationship between cortical microstructural diffusion and canonical brain functional networks. Approach: We used diffusion kurtosis imaging (DKI) to examine cortical microstructure in relation to high- and low-order brain networks. Results: Kurtosis diffusion in the cortex correlates with network hierarchy, showing distinct distributions between high- and low-order networks. DKI effectively maps cortical structure-function relationships. Impact: This study demonstrates that diffusion kurtosis imaging (DKI) effectively maps cortical microstructural properties, providing insights into brain network organization and offering potential for diagnosing and monitoring neurodegenerative conditions.
