The Republic of Serbia has, in the previous period, actively worked on the development and adoption of a set of various public policy documents in order to build a more efficient system for responding to climate change, taking into account the challenges the country is facing. In previous years, we have witnessed significant consequences for the population, property and the environment caused by natural disasters, primarily floods, droughts and storms and consequently also fl ash floods and landslides. In order to define effective mitigation and adaptation measures to climate change, it was necessary to adopt a number of national-level documents, primarily a sectoral strategy for adapting to altered climate conditions, as well as to adopt or amend relevant legal regulations. This paper presents the results of work on this document and discusses the measures that need to be implemented in the coming period in order to mitigate the consequences of climate change and enable society to successfully adapt to the changed climate conditions.
