Abstract The present government of Germany attaches to its forests great importance. Possessing an inadequate supply of various natural resources, it is making a strenuous effort to overcome this handicap by the more intensive and scientific utilization of sub-marginal agricultural lands for the production of wood, a natural and renewable resource, whose economic importance has increased rapidly during recent years because of the great variety of products derivable from it. Some of the legislation enacted to this end is here reviewed.
