Abstract American industries are accustomed to spend substantial sums of money to build good relations with their employees, consumers, and the general public. The activities of public relations councilors undoubtedly do much to influence American thought and public action. In their advertising industries have already featured forestry activities, particularly forest fire prevention. The American Forest. Products Industries makes promotion of forestry its objective. But to the Union Bag & Paper Corporation goes credit for being the first operating industry to employ a public relations forester. This step is significant. It recognizes that a company cannot carry out a well-rounded program of forestry aids to independent timber owners without expending real effort to win their confidence.
