The advent of the digital economy era has gradually integrated digitalization into the development plans and processes of enterprises. Enterprise ESG performance is an important indicator for measuring enterprise value in the context of sustainable development, and the application of digital technology provides new ideas for enterprise ESG practices. Based on the data of Shanghai and Shenzhen A-share listed companies from 2009 to 2023, this paper explores the impact of digital transformation on the ESG performance of enterprises. The research shows that digital transformation can significantly improve the ESG performance of enterprises. The article further explores the moderating effects of the enterprises green innovation, new quality productivity, and marketization degree in this process, and the results show that the higher the level of green innovation, the higher the level of new quality productivity, and the higher the degree of marketization of enterprises, the more significant the role of digital transformation in enhancing enterprises ESG performance. In addition, the findings suggest that digital transformation has a more significant promoting effect on the ESG performance of enterprises with high factor intensity, located in the eastern region, in the mature stage, and heavily polluting.
