The late 1990s - early 2000s for our country were marked by the formation of new state foundations, revision of political, socio-economic and ethno-cultural relations. And, regional peculiarities dictated their own special ways of development of the multinational and multi-confessional Russian society. It was the ethno-cultural factor that carried significant risks of possible destabilisation of the state and “played into the hands” of external forces. Therefore, one of the main tasks of national and cultural policy has become the preservation and harmonization of interethnic dialogue, peaceful coexistence of cultures and religions. North Ossetia, historically a multi-confessional and multi-ethnic region, is a vivid example of these processes. On 30 December 2021, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree declaring 2022 the Year of Cultural Heritage of the Peoples of Russia, which testifies to the relevance of issues of ethno-cultural diversity in modern conditions 23. The proposed article examines the activities of national-cultural societies and their influence on the cultural agenda of North Ossetia in the conditions of socio-economic and political transformations. It is concluded that the functioning of such societies is a fundamental factor in the unique ethno-cultural space of North Ossetia.
