Scotland's staple global exports will soon include renewable offshore energy, so-called green energy. Already, Scotland produces more electricity than it currently needs. The future story is about connectivity and the transformation of the National Grid which directs electricity supplies into homes and businesses. Scotland's offshore renewables ambition has been significant in putting the nation in the green energy spotlight and attracting the attention of international investment groups. The concept of a Just Transition – creating tens of thousands of new local jobs and employment – requires a workforce to develop the skills to become productive members of this new sector. A Just Transition will require a great deal of fresh thinking, but too many Scots are unprepared for the change, and too few are set to truly benefit. Who will be the beneficiaries of this revolution? Only time will tell.
