Simple Modules as Invariant Spaces of Hecke Algebras

It is shown that all simple modules of the symmetric groups \ (S₍\) and the finite groups of Lie type can be realized as invariant spaces of some Hecke algebras with respect to certain multiplicative characters. We ask whether this phenomenon is true for all finite groups.
