Abstract The Swiss Parliament amended the Federal Council’s draft of Chapter 6 of the Private International Law Act regarding cross-border successions and adopted it on 22 December 2023. As no referendum was held within the 100-day referendum period (e.g. 18 April 2024), the new law will enter into force on 1 January 2025. The revision aims to modernise Switzerland’s international inheritance law and adapt it, at least partially, to the rules of the European Succession Regulation (“EUSuccReg” or “Brussels IV”) through improved coordination of states’ competencies to adjudicate cross-border estate matters.
