Many periodicals of the 20s and 30s of the 20th century are kept in the collections of the NBUV. Literary and artistic magazines are the largest thematic group. The presented article gives an idea of the Ukrainian renaissance period through the lens of various publications. Considerable attention is paid to establishing genealogical connections between editions; classification of magazines by volume, language, specialization. On the basis of contemporary and contemporary scientific research, bibliographic indexes, directories, memoir materials, letters, etc., the author clarifies the role of periodicals in the public-political and cultural-artistic life of Ukraine, their significance for the development of Ukrainian culture. It is important that for most readers, the magazine was the only way to get acquainted with the achievements of foreign cultures, with views on the political situation in the world, which did not always coincide with the official ones. As a result of the conducted research, we can draw a conclusion: the role of magazines in the literary process is undeniable. For literature, the length of publication of this or that magazine, its territorial affiliation, and other factors are of no fundamental importance. In general, historical studies of periodicals prove that periodicals of this type have a short life; they often represent one of the sides of the literary process, therefore the time of their existence, which is limited to one or several years, and sometimes several issues, is justified, the main thing is that the publication fulfilled its mission in the literary process. Literary and artistic periodicals in the era of Ukrainization not only promoted artistic creativity, but also performed the function of spreading philosophical ideas, political slogans, scientific achievements, and artistic movements.
