This study was conducted to verify the moderating effect of self-determination in the relationship between college life maladjustment and parental attitude perception of college students. For this purpose, a total of 292 college students (male and female) from universities in G metropolitan city and J province were analyzed.. For data analysis, SPSS 26.0 Pearson correlation analysis and hierarchical regression analysis were performed according to the procedure proposed by Baron and Kenny (1986). As measurement tools, the Parenting Attitude Scale (PAS), College Life Adaptation Scale (ClAS), and Self-Determination Scale (SDS) were used. The results of this study were as follows: First, there was a significant difference in the relationship between college students' perception of parenting attitude and maladjustment to college life. In the sub-factors of parenting attitude, significant differences were also shown in affection-hostility, autonomy-control, achievement-non-achievement, and rationality-irrationality. In addition, there was a significant difference in social adaptation and individual-emotional adaptation, which are sub-factors of college life adaptation. Second, it was confirmed that self-determination is moderated in the relationship between college students' perception of parenting attitude and maladjustment to college life. It was found that self-determination was regulated in all of the sub-factors of self-determination, such as autonomy, competence, and relationship. In conclusion, the study confirmed that college students' perception of parenting attitudes had an effect on college life maladjustment, and that self-determination was regulated through interaction with parenting attitudes. These findings suggest that it is meaningful to provide basic data for the development of individual counseling and group counseling programs to help college students adapt to school life.
