This study examined the perception of teacher competence, teaching methods and teacher efficacy in primary English language teaching. Ninety primary school teachers from Kano state Northwest region of Nigeria were selected using purposive sampling. The participants filled out a questionnaire based on a 5-point Likert scale. This quantitative study used cross-sectional survey methods to administer the instruments. Data analysis was carried out using the SPSS software. The result revealed that teachers perceived highly the nature of children’s English development. Also, teachers’ level of teaching methods and techniques is above average as teachers perceive what it means to have confidence in teaching English at the lower basic level. This suggests a considerable insight into the teaching of English language.
