The relevance of the study is related to the need for a historical assessment of the capacity of the manufacturing industry, including the electrotechnical industry, and the regions of Russia to maximize mobilization of internal resources in conditions of economic and technological isolation, to use mechanisms of economic self-sufficiency. The scientific novelty is due to a comprehensive analysis of the organizational and institutional aspects in the historical practice of studying the history of manufacturing enterprises. The purpose of the study is to consider the historical experience of scientific history evolvement of Cheboksary Electrical Equipment Plant in the first half of the 1970s. Materials and methods. The research is based on the materials of the book by I.D. Kuznetsov and G.P. Petrov “The History of Cheboksary Electrical Equipment Plant”, published in 1975. In the process of processing the materials, general scientific methods and special methods of historical research were used. Study results. The specific historical circumstances that prompted I.D. Kuznetsov and G.P. Petrov to start creating the monograph “The History of Cheboksary Electrical Equipment Plant” in 1975 are analyzed. The key factors that influenced the process of preparing the scientific history of the leading enterprise in the USSR electrical engineering industry are characterized. Conclusions. The features of the industrial development of the Chuvash ASSR in the first half of the 1970s, the needs of the social development of the enterprise itself, the presence of a higher educational institution focused on meeting the needs of the region, within the walls of which highly qualified historians worked, the experience accumulated by historical science in studying the history of industry and the working class of Chuvashia are determined as factors of evolvement and successful realization of scientific interest in the history of the plant.
