This study delves into Type 48 social housing constructed in postwar Japan, with 1,919 units spread across 14 cities. Surprisingly, units in local cities saw minimal resident renovations, maintaining furniture and fittings well. Notably, the spacious south-side living room doubled as a dining area and bedroom. Small serving windows were popular among households with children, while the Oribe-doko had limited use.
