The article analyzes the obstacles faced by students of a medical university during their internship. The importance of practical training of future doctors is due not only to the need to improve technical and manual skills, but also to the development of communication competence. In addition, clinical practice allows future doctors to gain an understanding of the mechanism of bioethical and deontological principles underlying the interaction between a doctor and a patient. In order to clarify the difficulties and prospects of the practical stage of training students of the medical university, we conducted a survey, which was attended by 200 students of the Altai State Medical University. As the results of the study showed, most students are interested in internships in medical institutions, and they readily perform their duties. However, a significant part of the respondents are not ready to interact with patients, there is a devaluation of empathy as a means to establish trusting relationships with the patient, and as a result, resort to the practice of paternalism in relationships with patients. The authors note the importance of the institute of mentoring at all stages of training at the higher medical school to overcome the identified imperfections.
