Parliament, exercising the function of combining the sovereignty of the people with state power, indicates the real source of power in a democratic state. Today this institution, despite holding some functions of major importance, such as representation, legislating and scrutiny over the executive, faces numerous challenges stemming from its authority as the supreme representative body and the only legislative authority. This study highlights the main advantages and disadvantages of domestic parliamentarism and proposes solutions for strengthening the capacities of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova in carrying out its functions, the proposed institutional and constitutional reforms aimed at reducing the trends of personalization of power and emphasizing the trends of parliamentarization of political life.
