يهدف هذا البحث إلى بيان تخصيص العام بخبر الواحد والقراءة الشاذة، وبيان موقف الأصوليين من ذلك، وقد اتبعت في هذا البحث المنهج الاستقرائي التحليلي، وقسمته إلى مقدمة وخمسة مباحث وخاتمة، تناولت في المقدمة أهمية الموضوع، وخطة البحث، والمنهج المتبع فيه. وفي المبحث الأول تناولت تعريف العام وأنواعه ودلالته، وتعريف الخاص والتخصيص وأنواع المخصصات. وفي المبحث الثاني تناولت التعريف بخبر الواحد، وموقف الأصوليين من تخصيص العام بخبر الواحد. وفي المبحث الثالث تناولت مسائل تطبيقية في تخصيص العام بخبر الواحد، وبيان الآثار الفقهية المترتبة على الخلاف في تخصيص العام بخبر الواحد، وفي المبحث الرابع تناولت التعريف بالقراءة الشاذة وأنواعها، وموقف الأصوليين من تخصيص العام بالقراءة الشاذة، وفي المبحث الخامس تناولت مسائل تطبيقية في تخصيص العام بالقراءة الشاذة، وبيان الآثار الفقهية المترتبة على الخلاف في القراءة الشاذة. وقد خلص البحث إلى مجموعة من النتائج أهمها: أن العام والخاص أصل عظيم من أصول الفقه، وذلك لأثرها في فهم نصوص الكتاب والسنة، واستنباط الأحكام الشرعية من الأدلة، وأن العام الوارد في القرآن الكريم لا يجوز تخصيصه بخبر الواحد، هذا عند الحنفية. أما عند الجمهور فإن العام الوارد في القرآن الكريم يخصص بخبر الواحد، وأن تخصيص العام بخبر الواحد والقراءة الشاذة عمل بالدليلين معًا، وأن للقراءة الشاذة أثر ظاهر في التفسير، وفي بيان بعض الأحكام الشرعية، وأن الاختلاف الحاصل في المسـألة لـيس خلافـًا نظريـًا، بـل ترتـب عليـه خـلاف في الأحكام والفروع الفقهية.
