The article discusses the AC traction power supply system modes controlling issues. To regulate the voltage, the use of a booster transformer was proposed, in which boost winding is connected to the supply line break, and supply winding is connected in parallel to the supply phase. A thyristor AC voltage regulator is connected in series to the supply winding. A simulation model of a booster transformer operation was compiled in the SimInTech program. A model of an electric locomotive is considered as an RL-load with a rectifier converter and transformer. The simulation shows that the use of a thyristor-controlled booster transformer makes it possible to regulate the voltage in the traction network in a fairly wide range. This allows you to control the operating modes of the traction power supply system. However, a negative consequence of using a booster transformer is considered a deterioration in power quality indicators. The calculation of voltage non-sinusodial coefficients for different durations of thyristor regulator closure was carried out. The authors found out that, in general, the use of a thyristor-controlled booster transformer leads to a deterioration in power quality indicators, but occasionally a decrease in the voltage non-sinusoidal coefficient is observed. The limitations of the model and prospects for further research are shown.
