Traditional passive VHF RFID tags use amplitude shift keying (ASK) or phase shift keying (PSK) to communicate information contained in the tag's memory or sensors to a remote reader. This document proposes phase-shift backscatter modulation to transmit information from the label to the reader. The methodology is derived from a combined and modified approach to previous studies. This type of modulator can modulate in the ultra-high frequency waveband, enabling high data rates with low power consumption. A simulation of the design is carried out in 0.18µm CMOS technology, with a supply voltage of 1 V, using ADS software.
