A wide-reaching concern in planetary health is: can we strive for a climate resilient future? The 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change took place in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates from Nov 30, to Dec 13, 2023.1 At a time when conflicts elsewhere in the world have dominated the news, we must not lose sight of the fact that the outcomes of the COP28 negotiations are crucial for building a climate resilient society and ensuring the achievement of the Paris climate goals, which include keeping increases in global mean surface temperatures well below 2°C in this century relative to pre-industrial levels and advancing timely, effective, and sustainable adaptation to climate impacts.
