This paper presents a simulation platform for eval-uating the battery energy storage system (BESS) of a prototype hybrid microgrid. Annual generation projections at the location of the microgrid, considering the measured load over a year. The main objective is to evaluate the performance of the microgrid in terms of energy storage capacity. Different simulation scenarios are considered for three BESS sizes: 15 kWh, 5 kWh, and a scenario where the BESS is absent. The relationship between the capacity of the BESS and the improvement in microgrid consumption is obtained, which is measured in terms of energy saved from the power grid. The simulation models are imple-mented using PLECS software. The results show that a reduction of 47,39% and 27,24% of energy consumption by the grid can be achieved for the two storage capacities considered, respectively, compared to the scenario without BESS.
