With numerous inherent features including decentralized storage, distributed ledgers, immutability, authentication, anonymity, transparency, and security, blockchain technology has transcended popularity to acquire practical applications in areas like healthcare. However, healthcare records including patients' medical data complicate this approach because there is a likelihood of a privacy violation. This systematic review conducts an examination of leading-edge blockchain research in the realm of healthcare. This paper identifies and addresses several open research challenges preventing blockchain implementation in the healthcare industry. A thorough comparison of the current research based on blockchain applications in healthcare has also been provided in this work.
