The article presents the theoretical background of approaches to the study of motivation and the results of a study of the motivation for survival of combatants, which determine the specific course of post-traumatic stress disorder and have practical significance in the development of rehabilitation programs and strategies for individual psychological counseling of patients and relatives of combatants. The problem of studying the motivation for survival of combatants and the life orientations that influence the formation of behavior in combat situations is relevant, complex, and insufficiently studied. An analysis of scientific literature has shown that in recent years there have been no studies that allow us to assess the mechanisms of the formation of motivation for survival in military conflicts, which has become the focus of our research. The work considers the relationship of the level of severity of post-traumatic disorder and meaning-life orientations. At the present time, the programs of psychological assistance to combatants are actively implemented, the importance of the problem of motivation for survival both during participation in combat operations and after demobilization comes to the fore, where motivation is a basic component of the prevention of suicide risk.
