Currently, both domestic and international anti‐islanding measures primarily focus on active methods, supplemented by passive methods, and combined into one. For active islanding detection technology, the frequently mentioned and used method is the Active Frequency Drift Method (AFD). Subsequently, scholars have proposed a frequency deviation‐based method with positive feedback, known as the Active Frequency Drift with Positive Feedback Method (AFDPF). This paper will conduct research on AFD and ADFPF, addressing the contradiction between the chopping factor and total harmonic distortion (THD) of the AFD algorithm, and then combining with the traditional AFDPF algorithm, a new positive feedback coefficient islanding detection algorithm is proposed: Variable Cubic Function Positive Feedback (VCFPF). Unlike the traditional AFDPF, the positive feedback coefficient in this algorithm is not a constant value but a variable function. Simulation and Experimental results have verified the correctness of this method. © 2026 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan and Wiley Periodicals LLC.
