Southern hemisphere circulation patterns and anomalies for the period March 1994 to February 1995 (autumn-summer inclusive) are reviewed, with emphasis given to Pacific Basin climate indicators, and Australian rainfall and temperature patterns. A warm Pacific episode was the dominant feature of the climate system during this time, with widespread dry conditions persisting across Australia until January 1995. Minimum temperatures were generally below normal, particularly in winter and spring over eastern Australia, reflecting a marked absence of cloud.
