Southern hemisphere circulation patterns and associated anomalies for the austral summer 2006-07 are reviewed, with emphasis given to the Pacific Basin climate indicators and Australian rainfall and temperature patterns. The summer saw clear signs of weakening of the El Niño event which began earlier in 2006, and according to some of the important indices the event had in fact concluded by the end of the season. Australian summer rainfall patterns showed no strong swings towards either wetter or drier conditions, but the season was characterised by widespread positive temperature anomalies.
