This study investigates the socio-economic impact of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) on employment and household income in rural Belagavi District, Karnataka. This study examines the impact of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) on employment and income generation in rural areas of Belagavi District, Karnataka. The research evaluates the scheme’s effectiveness in enhancing income security, promoting women’s participation, and creating durable community assets while identifying challenges such as delayed wage payments, limited awareness, inadequate planning, and asset maintenance issues. The study offers policy insights to improve MGNREGA’s efficiency, inclusiveness, and developmental impact, thereby strengthening rural livelihoods and supporting sustainable rural development in similar contexts.
