Idee zu einer allgemeinen Geschichte in Weltb?rgerlicher Absicht is one of the earliest of Kant?s texts on cosmopolitism - in the context of its emergence (1784), it departs from the framework established in the Critique of Pure Reason. Kant?s later political thought cannot be examined solely in terms of his systemic philosophy; it also calls for an investigation of the historical context of his interest in political topics of the German Enlightenment. In that regard, the long and at first glance unclear title of the text on universal history constitutes a source through which it is possible to show systemic and social prerequisites of Kant?s interest in cosmopolitism and the politics of the bourgeois class. This paper examines presuppositions of Kant?s interest in cosmopolitism through the analysis of concepts from the long title of his text on universal history.
