This review aims to evaluate the methodological approaches used in assessing district hospitals' efficiency in Senegal over a decade. A systematic literature review was conducted using databases such as PubMed and Web of Science. Studies published between and were included, with a focus on Senegalese district hospitals. The methodological quality of the studies was assessed using predefined criteria for multilevel regression analysis. Multilevel regression analysis has been applied to assess hospital efficiency in Senegal, particularly in terms of patient outcomes and resource utilization. However, there is a lack of consistency in data collection methods across studies, which limits direct comparisons. While multilevel regression analysis shows promise for evaluating district hospitals' performance, methodological heterogeneity hinders the robustness of efficiency measurements. Future research should standardise data collection protocols and methodologies to enhance comparability and reliability of efficiency assessments in Senegalese district hospitals. Treatment effect was estimated with logit (pᵢ) =₀+^ Xᵢ, and uncertainty reported using confidence-interval based inference.
